Typographic Conventions

Quartus® Prime Standard Edition Help and manuals use the following typographic conventions:

Visual Cue:

Meaning:

Bold Initial Capitals

Command names in menu, dialog box, page, and tab titles; and button and icon names are shown in bold with initial capital letters.

Examples: Find command, Settings dialog box, Configuration tab, Start Compilation button, and Detach Window icon.

bold

Directory, project, disk drive, file, software utility, and software executable names; software utility names; options in dialog boxes; and e-mail addresses are shown in bold.

Examples: \quartus directory, d: drive, filtref.bdf, File already exists. OK to overwrite?, www.altera.com.

Initial Capitals

Keyboard keys, menu names, programs, and applications are shown with initial capital letters.

Examples: Delete key, File menu, the Quartus® Prime Standard Edition software.

"Initial Capitals in Quotation Marks"

Chapter and section titles in manuals and Quartus® Prime Standard Edition Help topic titles are shown with initial capital letters and are enclosed in quotation marks.

Example: "Licensing the Quartus® Prime Standard Edition Software" in the Quartus® Prime Standard Edition Installation & Licensing for Windows and Linux Workstations manual.

Italic Initial Capitals

Book and manual titles are shown in italic with initial capital letters.

Example: Altera SoftwareInstallation and Licensing manual.

Variables are enclosed in italicized angle brackets (<>) and are shown in italics.

Examples: <number>, <hierarchy path>, <test bench>.

Courier Font

Block names, code samples (including HTML), command-line commands, language and operating system keywords, node names, operators, parameters, parameter values, pin names, port names, signal names, and user input are shown in Courier font.

Examples: BEGIN, genmen, COMPONENT, newt, clk input pin, next, newmaxw.

1., 2., 3., and a., b., c.,...

Numbered steps are used in a list of items when the sequence of the items is important, such as the steps listed in a procedure.
